The Oil Press of Prayer: Return to the Garden of Gethsemane!

I was watching “The Bible” movie again for the umpteenth time when the Lord started talking to me about Gethsemane.  As I studied this final evening in the garden prior to Jesus’ crucifixion, the Lord began to show me some things. For starters, I found that I had actually researched the name Gethsemane before. Not surprisingly, since God is a “patterns God”, that simply means that God had already established this pattern.  Then, realizing that Jesus is our template – our pattern – I believe that the Lord downloaded part of what He underwent in the garden that night as yet another pattern: a key strategy for REVIVAL!

Gethsemane itself means “Oil Press”.  The etymology of Gethsemane consists of two elements. The first part comes from the word (gat), meaning press. The second part comes from the root (smn) and may mean olive oil or eight – either of which works for me!  You see, olive oil is produced under pressure. Similarly, pressing in during prayer produces the new thing which would be the number eight – new beginnings!

My people have forsaken prayer!                                                                  I believe that Jesus is our template for this life and that He is our model for our existence. Few would argue with this fact.  However, I believe this particular passage of scripture not only tells of Jesus’ crucifixion and the hours immediately preceding it…not only does it tell us how we should act, react and respond under pressure…but I believe there is another message, a deeper message as well, even a hidden message.  I believe that God is speaking to us in this hour about prayer.

A few days ago the Lord said to me, “My people have forsaken prayer!” He went on to say that we need to return to it, that we need to return to our first love.  He also said, “All great revivals have been birthed in prayer!”  I believe that His heart is this: in order to produce the results that we want to see, we have to return to the Oil Press of prayer.  We need to return to the garden of Gethsemane.

You see, Jesus went to this garden in order to save mankind. The sin of the world was so heavy upon Him as he prayed that it actually caused Him to sweat blood.  Luke 22:41 says that Jesus prayed that the cup would pass from Him (paraphrased), but it wasn’t until He went back to praying more intently, in Luke 22:44, that scripture says it actually happened:

“And being in agony [deeply distressed and anguished; almost to the point of death], He prayed more intently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down on the ground.”

More pressure = Richer Oil                                                                          In researching the oil press, it seems that the virgin oil, the “first cutting”, is obtained by crushing the olives and soaking them in hot water, allowing the virgin oil to float to the top, where it is skimmed off by hand.  The deeper oil, the second press, is where the oil obtains a darker, reddish brown color – very similar to blood in appearance.  One does not obtain this blood color oil – the deeper, richer oil – without an intense amount of pressure for a protracted amount of time.

This speaks volumes to me!  The first crushing is almost superficial.  This crushing during learning how to walk this Kingdom walk while being soaked in the hot water of the refiner’s fire, produces oil – for our own benefit! Likewise, any prayer that we have prayed so far for revival has issued forth only this first layer of oil.  It is not until we go back into our prayer closets, into our war rooms and really pray MORE INTENTLY, applying even greater amounts of pressure on heaven, that we will see the deeper, richer oils of revival for which we so long.

Pressure creates the blood of grapes.                                                          But wait, there’s more! If a little bit of pressure and crushing along with some hot water creates oil, then a lot of pressure – intense pressure – will produce a darker oil, one with more substance, one that resembles blood….even the blood of grapes (see Genesis 49:11).  You see, the first part of the word (gat) by itself in Hebrew (gimel, tav) can also mean WINEPRESS. The second part, (smn) means oils or eight.  This literally translates into “winepress of oils” or “winepress of eight”. Again, either one works for the body in this hour – new wine, new oils and deeper, richer oil and wine for new beginnings and REVIVAL!

But it will only happen when we press in, praying even more in earnest, more intently for revival to come. Most of us are so busy that it is a challenge just to get into the prayer closet, let alone pray it through.  However, the old acronym for BUSY, “Buried Under Satan’s Yoke” still applies!  It is a favorite tactic of the enemy to keep us so busy that we cannot find time for the things that REALLY matter! We need to get UN-Busy with the things of the world and then get busy in the closet – our prayer closet.

Pray for strategies to come forth from heaven to get blueprints and directions to proceed. It is no accident that the Lord had me watching this movie of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane for the umpteenth time.  He has a plan that He wants to go forth about the Oil Press of Prayer. He wants us to press in like never before, battle the enemy on our knees, and come out victoriously on the other side!  He wants sustained revival even more than we do.  Let’s give it to Him!

Here’s to the new wine and oil of REVIVAL!

New Season “BE” Attitudes!

New Season “BE” Attitudes!

We all know this is a new season, a new place that we have walked into.  Some of us are having some difficulties navigating this new terrain because it is so alien!  It is because He is re-training us.  Although this is not all-inclusive, I believe this list of “BE” Attitudes for this new season will BE-helpful!

At that time the disciples came up and asked Jesus, Who then is [really] the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

And He called a little child to Himself and put him in the midst of them,

And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].

Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving] is greatest in the kingdom of heaven,” (Matthew 18:1-4 AMPC).

God has been speaking to me about this very thing – to BE-Hold Him like a Child!  Do you remember when you were a little kid waking up on Saturday morning?  Do you remember how full of anticipation you were?  How exciting it was?  The world was so full of promise!  You could do ANYTHING!  God wants us to BE like that little child again!

BE Wonder-Full: He wants us to be FULL OF WONDER!  Our cynicism must go!  All the callousness, the pride, our “know it all” attitudes…indeed, the bitterness and rage must go, too.  We must be full of wonder and open our eyes wide to the things of God.  I believe that He is going to show us amazing things of which we have no knowledge in this season!  He is taking us to school just like a little kid, retraining us to show us brand new things – about Him, about the body and about ourselves!

“Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand),” (Jeremiah 33:3 AMPC).

Be like a little child, according to Matthew 18:3 (AMPC).  We must “… become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving]…” Jesus said that if we cannot humble ourselves and do this, we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven – AT ALL!  I don’t know about you, but I want IN, right here, right now! I want to walk in the Kingdom of Heaven, today, right here in the earth realm.

For some of us, this will be difficult, because we have become accustomed to reacting to life through our pain, our doctrine, or our belief systems about Daddy God.  We simply have to admit that we ARE children; that we do NOT know it all; and open our eyes to the truth that He has so much more for us than what we have experienced so far!

Be expectant – Expect nothing but the best in this season!  God has amazing things planned for you.  He has been waiting your entire life, longing to bless you in the way that He is blessing you in this season!  Expect it and let Him!  Open your heart and don’t be afraid, because He is opening His hand to you.

Be excited – This is the time of your life!  These are the days that you will look back on in future years and just sigh with satisfaction and contentment, and giggle with joy!  This is your ‘launch time’!  This is a time to be excited about.  You were born for such a time as this!  You have been groomed for this moment in history!  Get up off the couch!  Get ready to run!  It’s GO-TIME!

Believe!  Out of all of the BE-Attitudes that He has called us to in this season, for some, this may be the most difficult.  If you have been in a rough season, seeing dream after dream crash-and-burn, and feel that God is no longer in the prayer-answering business, this will be THE TIME TO STAND UP AND BELIEVE!  You must shake it off and BELIEVE God again!  Believe that He loves you!  Believe that He wants the best for you!  Believe that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (see 2 Cor. 5:21)!  Believe that He is doing the impossible, and He is doing it for YOU!

Be willing – We must be willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen!  We must be willing to listen for the voice of God and surrender completely to whatever it is that He says to do.  We must be willing to submit to His will – crucify our flesh – and just do it.  We must be willing to exchange the old for the new!  We must be willing to sit at his feet, to travel the world, to walk the extra mile, or to do whatever it takes, because that is what He is calling us to in this season.

Be open – We must be open to God-possibilities!  God is so creative – He never has to repeat Himself! We must be open to literally ANYTHING!    He is opening doors in the most unusual of places, connecting us with people that we never dreamed we would ever know.  When you are open to anything, you will expect it, and be excited about it, too.  Look for something unusual to occur, because that is GOD!

Be REAL!  It is God’s heart that we are REAL – with HIM, with OURSELVES and with EACH OTHER.  God is sick of the fake.  He wants “The REAL You” – the one He created.  He doesn’t want a really bad copy of somebody else.  He doesn’t want the fake exterior, either – He doesn’t like white-washed tombs (see Matthew 23:27).  We need to become the REAL us that He dreamed of before the foundation of the earth was laid.  It is our authenticity that reveals Jesus, not the “made-up” version of us that we created!

“And He called a little child to Himself and put him in the midst of them…” (Matthew 18:2).

You ARE that little child in Matthew 18:2! He has called you!  He chose you and put you in the midst of Himself!  You are in His inner circle of friends, one of his hand-selected disciples!  He calls you His beloved.  In this season, you will BE that beloved child once again – full of wonder, expectant, and excited at all that your world once again has to offer.  This is the time of your life!  Live it to the fullest!

God’s parallels: “I shall provide for you!”

The Lord put me in 1Kings 5 this morning, seemingly at random, because the Bible just opened to it.  Of course, we all know it’s never random when that happens!

My husband and I had been talking over coffee about his career situation and planning for retirement, whenever that is!  But, for this next year, he’s wrestling with some different work opportunities, looking at leaving some, and taking on others.  My husband loves God.  He wants to do what is both right and beneficial for everybody involved, but especially in God’s eyes.

In the same way, it’s a new season for me, too, in the ministry.  I am experiencing a surprising parallel to my husband’s work circumstances.  I was offered something yesterday, something ministry related, that I had never even contemplated before now.  Because of this, supernaturally, yet another “think-prayer” would be answered at the same time!

However, because of this, in the same way as my husband, I am also wrestling with some things.  I also want to do what is both right, and beneficial, for all parties.  I, too, am looking at taking on some new responsibilities, and leaving others behind.  I, too, want to do what is right in God’s eyes, and what is His will.

Somehow, even in the midst of all of these parallels, as I was reading 1 Kings 5 about the saga of the bargains being struck for the initiation of the building of the House of the Lord, I missed it.  Somehow, I completely missed the parallel in my life that God was obviously drawing in His Word.  Somehow, I completely missed that He was speaking directly to me.  It was right here, right in front of me.

1 Kings 5 (AMPC)

5(Solomon said) And I purpose to build a house to the Name of the Lord my God, as the Lord said to David my father, Your son whom I will set on your throne in your place shall build the house to My Name and Presence.

So, Hiram, command them to hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; my servants shall join yours, and I will give you whatever wages you set for your servants. For you know that no one among us can equal the skill of the Sidon men in cutting timber.

When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly and said, Blessed be the Lord this day, Who has given David a wise son to be over this great people.

And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things for which you sent to me; I will do all you wish concerning the cedar and cypress timber.

My servants shall bring the logs down from Lebanon to the sea, make them into rafts, and float them by sea to the place that you direct. I will have them released there, and you shall take them away. And you shall fulfill my desire by providing food for my household.

10 So Hiram gave Solomon all the cedar and cypress trees he desired,

11 And Solomon gave Hiram 20,000 measures of wheat for food for his household, and 20 measures of pure, beaten oil.”

Reading this the first time through, I got hung up on the volume of food in verse 11, thinking that it was a relatively small number of ‘measures of oil’ (20) versus the massive amount of ‘measures of wheat’ (20,000).  This prompted me to go back and read this single line of scripture again, to confirm that I had read it properly. Once I knew I had, I continued.

When I went on to the very next line of scripture in verse 11, it literally took my breath away!  I realized, at that exact moment, what the Lord had done.  I saw the parallels that He had drawn, along with the answer He was providing to the questions that we were asking in prayer, and while we talked over coffee – a solution!

This line of scripture states, He gave these to Hiram yearly.”

I fell on my face on the floor and wept at the goodness of God!  Here we are, talking about money…no, not just about MONEY, our annual income for next year…and the Lord surgically inserted me into His Word at the exact spot where He could talk to us about what He intends to do!

All people everywhere, whether we voice it or not, our request to the Lord is the same as Hiram’s request to Solomon – provide food for my family.  “Lord, if we are providing trees for you (which symbolize people who are being saved and impacted by this ministry) then provide for us!  Provide food, clothing, shelter… provide income, Lord! Provide what this ministry needs to not just survive, but to thrive!”

The Lord’s response, through His word is, “Not only shall I provide for you, but I shall provide for you ANNUALLY.  I will provide for you, not just this year, but every year – year in, and year out.

He made it extremely clear this morning that He will provide for us yearly; but not just for me and my husband!  His promises are YES and AMEN to all of His children.  He promises to not only provide for us just once or twice, but yearly will He give to us, just as He gave to Hiram.  That is because we have “made a treaty (see v.12)” with Him…we have agreed to Jesus’ Lordship over our lives. We have agreed to give up what we had, for what He has!  Because of this, He can take what we give Him and multiply it back to us, in good measure!

Now, how much is 20,000 measures of wheat, and 20 measures of oil?  I have no idea.  I know it was enough to provide for Hiram’s family, and it was set up to come every single year.  That’s all that matters.

He did it for Hiram, and He’ll do it for you, too. Just Believe!

I find it interesting that 20,000:20 is a 1000:1 ratio between the measures of wheat and oil.  Perhaps this has to do with Deuteronomy 1:11, whereby the Lord promises to make you 1,000 times greater than you are now!

“May the Lord, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you as He has promised you!” (Deut. 1:11)

I’m taking that Word and sowing into it!  Won’t you join me by sowing into Edie Bayer and Kingdom Promoters’ Ministry?  I am going to be bold, and ask you to believe for a Deuteronomy 1:11, 1000-fold multiplication blessing BACK TO YOU on every dollar as you sow into this ministry!  Just say this:

“Father, in the Name of Jesus, I thank you for multiplying this seed I am giving today back to me 1,000 times according to your Word in Deuteronomy 1:11.  Thank you, Jesus!”

GIVE HERE: YES! I want my Deut. 1:11 Blessing! *

“Enter My Chambers!” Intimacy, Jesus style

“Enter My Chambers!”  Intimacy, Jesus style

Jesus said loudly and suddenly, “Get in Here! Get into my embrace!”  Immediately, I saw living light strands stretching from the ceiling down, from heaven to earth.  They were aqua-green, tube-looking things, and somehow I knew they were alive.  I saw someone that looked a little like Todd White inside of a bundle of these living light-tubes off to the left of where I was in the vision.  Off to the right I saw a brown horse.  It lunged at the man that looked like Todd White, teeth bared and menacing, trying to eat the tubes.  I knew the horse stood for the mundane things of life; those things that try to eat up our available time to spend with the Lord, eating up our time for the things of God.

Next I saw an open door in front of me, and a booming voice said, “When are you going to enter in? All you have to do is walk through!” So I did, and on the other side of the door was the most amazing CGI-looking perfection I’ve ever seen!  It was a perfect sky blue sky, sunflowers, green grass, and the door was just hanging open in the midst of the heavenlies.  I floated down through this sky blue perfection onto the green carpet of grass and looked around, amazed at all the utter beauty that surrounded me.  Looking up, the doorway still stood open in the heavens.  It did not close or disappear.

Then I heard, “Enter My Chambers!”  I pushed open the heavy, wooden door, and I walked into this antique, old French-country style bedroom.  I saw an amazing old wooden bed, with a huge headboard.  The bed cover was red velvet, plush and stunningly gorgeous.  I saw myself in the bed, with the covers pulled up almost to my shoulders, even though there was a fire in the fireplace.  I was young, with long brown hair, and a nightgown that was laced up to my chin, covering my entire neck.

Jesus climbed into the bed with me, and he was also similarly dressed, with a frilly 1700’s looking men’s night shirt that was laced all the way up to his neck as well.  He pulled me close, bed covers over our laps.  My head was on his shoulder, and we leaned into each other, cuddling, just snuggling in a non-sexual way, enjoying each other’s company.

Suddenly, He said, “You know you’re going to have to make love with me.”

Somehow, this did not shock me.  He said it in such a way that I knew it was coming; in fact, everything in my life had led up to this very moment in time!  It all led to this divine intersection in this encounter with Jesus.  He was not talking about any kind of sexual activity whatsoever.  He was talking about KNOWING his bride, who had entered into His bridal chambers.  He was calling for His bride to LOVE Him back – honestly, transparently, deeply, fully, totally engrossed in Him…to be naked before Him.

He was telling me, in essence, to make with Him a deeply fulfilling love relationship where one does not currently exist.  Although I love the Lord, he desires a deeper level of intimacy with me, and with His bride.  His desire was to lose all pretense and all forms of religiosity; to lose the masks and charades, to let all our defenses down; to drop our veils, walls and garments that we hide behind, and to LOVE Him as His bride in the bridal chambers.  His wish was for His bride to allow Him to know, and probe, and touch all those hurting, painful places. He was simply asking to allow Him, as our husband, to wipe away our tears and tear down our defenses, then to put the balm of Gilead on our wounds.  He wants to simply love us, the way that He wants to love us.

He wants us to MAKE LOVE with Him, because we are unable to make anything good or of any value ourselves, and because every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17).  We cannot create love ourselves, on our own, under our own power.  We are simply not capable of it.  Our idea of love does not even begin to compare with the intimacy and the levels of transparency that He desires.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts,” (Is. 55:9).

I believe that in seasons past His bride has sat in the bridal chamber, even crawled under the covers with Him, but refused to allow Him full access.  She has not bared herself to Him and become truly transparent, because then she (we) would lose control.  His Bride has refused to allow Him full knowledge of our hearts, our intents, and our actions.  We have refused Him full access to our plans; rather, we have concocted our own strategies, all for His glory, of course.

This is a picture of us in the bridal suite.  Yes, we are in His chambers, and some have even gotten to a deeper level of intimacy with Him: under the covers with the King.  Yet our nightgowns are still fully laced up to our chins and our comforters pulled up to our shoulders, even though there is a fire burning in the fireplace!

In order to birth anything, we must first be intimate; thus the need for intimacy, Jesus-style.

“You know you’re going to have to make love with me.”  This He said, knowing exactly His bride’s heart and every single condition of her circumstances.  This time, he came closer, clothing shed; AGAIN, not in a sexual way, but fully transparent, revealing his intimate intentions with His bride, for the two to become one, with nothing to hide.

“…and the two will become one flesh,” (Gen. 2:24).

He touched His bride’s garment, the one she hides behind, her comfortable mask, and pulled it down, slowly, slowly.  All I could see was it slipping down her arm under that long brown hair.  In the vision, I felt this garment of despair being shed like an old skin!  My heart leapt inside the cavity of my rib cage, while tears rolled down my face, as the lover of my soul melted into His bride, as the two in the bridal chamber in my vision literally became one.  I actually lost sight of Him, and of her (of me), and only saw one mass of love.

“…and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh,” (Mark 10:8).

He wants us – all of us, and nothing less will do.  He wants our entire hearts, all our love with no reserve.  He wants our adoration, our time, our energy.  He wants our day-planners, our money, our emotions, our families…in short, He wants it all.  And He will get it.  He always gets what He wants.

In this time frame in history He wants intimacy with His bride that heretofore has been completely unknown in human terms.  We are going to learn, as His bride, corporately as a family unit, exactly what it means to MAKE LOVE with the King; to know Him, and be known by Him (Gal. 4:9).  This is where we are headed, because this is what He wants.

Isn’t that awesome?
